Welcome
Welcome competitors and thank you for participating in the 1st annual 2021 H.A.M. Public Safety Powerlifting Event. My name is Sergeant Chuck Pfau a 26 year veteran with a local Sheriff’s Office in the region and a current Executive Board Member of your association. Competing in physical sports and weight training have always been a big part of my life and continue to this day. The challenges presented by the pandemic this past year inspired me to create an event promoting Health and Wellness within the public safety community. An event to build camaraderie, raise morale and showcase the hard work and dedication ingrained in you – the public safety professional; and what better way than through the sport of powerlifting.
Many of my fondest memories and experiences early in my career were the relationships I had working, playing, and being mentored by three of our agencies’ most powerful and dedicated – Ken “Buck” Harbuck, Glenn “Mats” Matsumoto, and Cam “Jumbo” Anderson. Three men who dominated the sport of Public Safety Powerlifting. Multi-year record, medal, and titleholders in the California Police Olympic Games and other past state competitions.
These gentlemen were Sheriff’s legends of the sport and I’m extremely honored to honor Buck, Mats, and Jumbo with this event and the name that represents the initials of each of their last names – H.A.M. Also, I am very excited and grateful to partner with established gym owner and respected competitor, Alan Thrall of Untamed Strength in presenting and hosting this meet. Along with the generous sponsorship and support from the Sacramento County Deputy Sheriff’s Association – SCDSA, the Sacramento Area FireFighters Local 522, and the Sacramento Police Officers Association – SPOA. The big three public safety labor organizations in the Sacramento region make every aspect of the Health and Wellness of its member’s top priority.
Alan and I have a vision of creating a top-notch event and experience that’s all about you – the competitor! Again, thank you for being a part of this event.
Respectfully,
Chuck Pfau
